In our office, National Paralegal Day is a day set aside to recognize and celebrate the contributions of paralegals to the legal profession. We celebrate it on October 23rd each year in the United States.

In one of our planning meetings, Randall informed us that the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) established the day to honor paralegals for their dedication and hard work in supporting attorneys and law firms in providing legal services to clients. Randall takes our paralegal celebrations very seriously, as he is one of our beloved paralegals and takes pride in his work.

The NFPA also aims to increase awareness of the paralegal profession and promote the importance of ongoing professional development for paralegals. For Randall, this was an essential aspect of National Paralegal Day 2023. He wanted everyone to know how hard the team worked via lectures, and the rest of us wanted to have fun. 

Offices and law firms may celebrate National Paralegal Day in various ways. Some firms may hold special events or luncheons for their paralegals, while others may offer training or educational opportunities to help their paralegals further develop their skills. We decided the best way to convince Randall to have fun instead of lecturing everyone about how hard he worked was to have him sit and really listen to our National Paralegal Day ideas. Randall wasn't all bad and bossy, and he was usually a very nice guy. He never told us how to celebrate National Paralegal Day in past years, so we decided that after he heard us out, we would try to find out why he was so determined to show everyone the challenges of working as a paralegal. 

As we showed him our plans, Randall began to soften to the idea of having fun. He told us about how unappreciated he felt on National Attorney Day. The paralegals had gone above and beyond to celebrate the firm lawyers, and their efforts had gone ignored. 

It turns out that this was the reason Randall so desperately wanted to show them what it was like to be a paralegal.

In reality, our partners had been in the midst of a big case when National Attorney Day took place, and it wasn't that they overlooked the efforts of the paralegal team, but they were completely wrapped up in work. We explained this to Randall, and the expression on his face suggested the realization that he'd made a mistake.

We scheduled an in-office movie night featuring legal-themed movies and TV shows. We planned to screen "Legally Blonde," which won the vote by a landslide.
